Okay, let's get into the business.
First of all, i'd let you know that i've been writing fanfictions for 2 years or so. And you know, to attract readers, i feel the need to make a pretty pretty poster for each story. Back then, i just know THE BASIC of photoshop. Yea, i use photoshop like all the time.I also use GIMP once in awhile. i give up on corel btw.
So, with the minimal knowledge and skill that i had, i struggled to make one. And the result wasn't exactly eye-catchy one (I realized it like a year ago. Back then i thought it was super amazing eww). So,here are a few of my earley 'masterpieces' LMAO
This is my very very first poster. It's ugly as hell
I changed the previous one to this because i thought it was prettier. Now i think it's much uglier than anything
I used this to enter a fic contest (surprisingly the fic ended up on 4th place. pretty good for amateur like me heh)
I started to get the grip of cutting. the image cut is smoother than the previous ones i think
After got bored of indonesian fics, i moved to asianfanfics. This is where i started to know cough yaoi stuff cough and also where i discovered AMAZING graphics. There are lots of story with gorgeous main poster. like really really gorgeous. it could carry the overall atmosphere of the story in a glance.
And one day, I DISCOVERED THE SECRET OF AMAZING GRAPHIC DESIGN!
Seriously, this site provides everything i need to design a graphic from A-Z. It provides detailed tutorial even for the basic.
As i consider myself as a total amateur, i started with
InDesign: Building Your Foundation
First of all, i set a goal to understand every single thing about photoshop (um not really, but at least i understand the essential thing to design a graphic). I also learnt the right technique to cut, blend images, and lots of other thing. (I found the miracle of Action here. Like, i can give my pics gorgeous effect like on instagram, etc.)
The most important thing is, i learnt about the importance of Typography, object arrangement, graphic mood, etc. It's the most important key to the graphic. You don't want to put cute pink glitter-y text on your sad themed graphic, right?
If you wantto be able to make good graphic, you have to understand literally everything there.

Do you know what happened to my design right after i discovered this precious site? It changed drastically. Within 2 weeks or so i can make much cleaner graphic. here's the proof:
Do you see the differences? it's MUCH different from my previous design. It's more appealing to eyes. Well, it's not that good, but, still, it's MUCH BETTER than my pre-InDesign designs.
As a side note, i've got the honor to design several stuff for school activities. Even the big ones. You have no idea how glad i am.
